Why This Exists

Writer & Founder, After She Cheated
I never expected to become the person writing about infidelity.
For most of my life, I was a husband, a father, a teacher, and an athlete. I believed that hard work, commitment, and showing up for the people you love could get you through almost anything. Like most husbands, I believed that if you loved your family enough and were willing to fight for it, you could get through almost anything.
Then one phone call changed everything.
I was at work when my direct office phone rang. The caller was a woman I had never spoken to before. She lived more than 1,200 miles away, yet somehow she had found my work number.
She called to tell me that my wife was having an affair with her husband.
I wanted to believe there had been some mistake.
There wasn't.
I didn't confront my wife immediately. I spent the next three days trying to process what I had heard before asking my wife one simple question.
"Is there something you need to tell me?"
She denied everything.
Then, in the same conversation, she told me she would let me have the house because her affair partner planned to move here after his son graduated from high school.
In just a few minutes, the life I thought I had disappeared.
I wish I could tell you I knew exactly what to do next.
I didn't.
Why You Can Trust Me
I write under the name Carter Stone.
I'm a husband, father, teacher, and former athlete whose life changed because of infidelity.
Everything you'll read on this website comes from lived experience, years of reflection, countless hours of research, and the journal I kept while I was living through it.
If you're looking for someone with all the answers, I'm probably not your guy.
If you're looking for someone who understands what betrayal feels like from the inside, I hope this website becomes the resource I couldn't find.
Looking for Answers
Like most people who experience betrayal, I started searching for answers.
Actually, that's putting it too mildly.
I became obsessed.
I searched while I was at work. I searched when I got home. I searched late into the night when I should have been sleeping. I kept believing that the next article, the next video, or the next podcast would finally explain why I couldn't think straight, why I couldn't sleep, or why the person I loved suddenly felt like a stranger.
Some resources helped.
Many didn't.
I was fortunate to have a few close friends who were incredible listeners. I'll always be grateful for them. They gave me a place to talk when I desperately needed one.
But as much as they cared, none of them had experienced what I was living through.
They couldn't tell me what the next week might feel like because they'd never walked that road themselves.
I wasn't looking for perfect advice.
I was looking for someone who understood.
I found articles written by therapists. I found experienced marriage counselors. I found thoughtful women writing about surviving their husband's affair.
Those voices mattered.
But I never found a man who had lived through what I was experiencing and was willing to write honestly about it.
That realization became the foundation of everything you're reading today.
Why I Don't Tell Men to Stay or Leave
One of the questions I'm asked most often is whether I think a man should stay after his wife has an affair.
My answer is always the same.
I don't believe that decision belongs to me.
I spent eight months trying to save my marriage.
Not because I was afraid to leave.
Because I loved my family.
As a former athlete, I approached those months the only way I knew how. I believed that if I kept showing up, kept improving, and kept fighting, maybe I could save what we had built together.
I even remember telling my wife,
"I just need to win the day."
Looking back, I realize I was trying to solve a problem that one person could never solve alone.
My late father used to say,
"It takes two to tango."
He was right.
Years later, my therapist said something I'll never forget.
"It must be incredibly hard to feel so betrayed while also carrying the torch for your family."
She had just described exactly how I had been living.
That same therapist also gave me one of the best pieces of advice I received during that entire season.
"Divorce is not an emergency."
She wasn't telling me to stay.
She wasn't telling me to leave.
She was reminding me that I didn't have to make the biggest decision of my life while I was living through the biggest shock of my life.
Unless someone is in immediate physical or psychological danger, I believe there is value in slowing down before making permanent decisions.
Trying to save my marriage didn't save it.
But it gave me something I'll always have.
Peace.
I sleep well at night because I know I gave my family everything I had.
That's why I'll never tell another man what decision he should make.
My goal is to help you reach your own decision with a clearer mind than I had during those first difficult weeks.
What This Website Is
After She Cheated exists because I couldn't find the resource I needed.
I wasn't looking for someone to tell me what to do.
I was looking for someone who understood what I was experiencing and could help me make sense of it.
That person didn't exist.
So I started writing.
The journal I kept during the hardest months of my life became a book.
The book became this website.
This website became a mission.
Not to convince men to stay.
Not to convince men to leave.
But to help them understand what they're experiencing, think more clearly, and feel a little less alone while they find their own path forward.
Everything I build comes back to one simple idea.
I couldn't find the resource I needed.
So I built it.
Why I Use a Pen Name
Earlier, I mentioned that I write under the name Carter Stone.
Carter Stone is a pen name. It isn't my legal name.
I don't write under a pen name because I'm ashamed of my story.
I write under a pen name because my children deserve to hear it from me first.
They're still young, and one day they'll be old enough to search the internet. When they learn the story of our family, I want them to hear it from me, in the right place and at the right time, not from a search engine.
Using a pen name allows me to write with complete honesty while protecting their privacy.
Everything else on this website is true.
Every story.
Every lesson.
Every article.
Everything comes from my own experience.
If You're Here
If you've recently discovered your wife's affair, I'm genuinely sorry.
I know this isn't where you expected your life to be.
It certainly wasn't where I expected mine to be.
I hope this website becomes the resource I spent months searching for and could never find.
If something you read here helps you understand what you're experiencing, helps you avoid a mistake I made, or simply reminds you that you're not the only man walking this road, then every hour I've spent building this has been worth it.
If you're not sure where to begin, start with the free guide.
It's the guide I wish someone had handed me during those first few days, when everything felt confusing and nothing made sense.
Thank you for trusting me with part of your journey.
